I REALLY need that capability since my mother tongue (URDU) is RTL as is Arabic which is the language of Koran- and I am doing a lot of copy pasting from Koran to Word documents. In this screen-cast, I briefly talk about my work-around to be able to paste Arabic and Urdu in MS Word for Mac. I thought of using i-works but there is also the rumor of a new i-work so did not want to waste my money. Deal breaker was the several warnings against switching to i-works who are well-versed with MS Office and that formatting of MS office would be lost in i-works- THAT was not acceptable to me. Using other soft-wares like 'Bean' also caused loss of Word Formatting (not acceptable for my work) and Open Office was not optimal and perfect either. So I finally had to install Parallels Desktop,and installed Windows Home Premium.
You have to have a new full install and soft-wares from your previous laptop is very unlikely to work. In fact, it may stall or freeze your mac into a 'grey screen' (Google it) and you would have to restore it from an external hard disk (Yeah! I tried and suffered).
You would, of course, need MS office (for Windows, not Mac).

Microsoft has released service pack 2 for it’s Mac Office suite unfortunately. The update includes many fixes and you should run the Microsoft Office update to install it. Read more about the update. Despite Microsoft’s “advancements” in supporting Arabic on Windows/Office for Windows as they claim.

Office 2008 for Mac have for many Unicode and RTL (right to left) languages such as Arabic. Microsoft Office developers’ to Arabic/RTL support is “BiDi languages and Unicode support has not change since 2004”. In other words “if you want Arabic go buy Windows”. Microsoft continues it’s idiotic ways. To get the word out to Microsoft send an email to listed for “enquiries regarding Arabic language” and on Microsoft Mac BU site and demand they add Arabic support!
