'Within this territory were the seats of the Fairfaxes, Washingtons, Masons, McCartys, Fitzhughs, Brents, Alexanders, Lewises, Mercers, Daniels, Carters, Dades, Stuarts, Corbins, Tayloes, Steptoes, Newtons, Browns, Lees, Thorntons, Balls, Smiths, and other leading families too many to mention, who dispensed an elegant hospitality at Northumberland House, Nomini, Stratford, Chantilly, Mount Airy, Sabine Hall, Bedford, Albion, Cedar Grove, Boscobel, Richland, Marleborough, Woodstock, Gunston, Belvoir, Woodlawn, Mount Vernon, etc. Beginning at Lancaster, county was taken from county, Parish from Parish, as the population of each passed the frontiers, until in 1730 Prince William was taken from Stafford and King George Counties, above Chappawansick Creek and Deep Run, and along the Potomac, to the 'Great Mountains.' This became also Hamilton Parish; which Parish, by an Act of the General Assembly passed at the Session of May, 1732, to take effect the first of the following November, was divided into two Parishes 'By the river Ockoquan, and the Bull Run, (a branch thereof,) and a course from thence to the Indian Thoroughfare of the Blue Ridge of Mountains,' (Ashby's Gap.) All that part of Prince William lying below the said bounds was to retain the name of Hamilton, 'And all that other part of the said county, which lies above those bounds, shall hereafter be called and known by the name of Truro.'
The Parish was named after the Parish in Cornwall, in England, which is now the Diocese of Truro.' See Complete Index At. By Doris Christian HISTORY OF WILLIAMSBURG, S.C.

By Doris Christian SKETCHES OF NORTH CAROLINA, HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL, ILLUSTRATIVE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF A PORTION OF HER EARLY SETTLERS. WILLIAM HENRY FOOTE. 1846 This 559 page piece of history of the Presbyterian Church and this area of NC was written in 1846 at the request of the Presbytery of North Carolina and in 1912 was republished. In 1961 the Synod of North Carolina started the North Carolina Presbyterian Historical Society and they set out to 'correct' the 'errors' of this book and republished it in 1965. (DMK Heritage, Editors personal opinion: As a genealogist I personally think the NCPHS were just 'nit picking' with the over-all intention of discrediting this work.
Foote states several times that this is not meant to be a history that is why he calls it 'Sketches'. Some of the individual stories I am sure are not what these two organizations would like as part of their history. However, being a genealogist and having read local histories for the last 35 years, I think the attitudes, and incidents are very realistic and believable, regardless of the 'misspelled' words.
I think this is an important book for all Scotch-Irish Presbyterian descendents.) This is one of the most quoted books on Rev. War history; events being told by the sons of the soldiers who fought.

Wow, that sure was a lot better than goin to World History I. Y asn't it If any one out there suspects that I am gently hinting that the last four years have been overrun w ith trivialities and buried in unrealized potential you got it. Roughly, the minds and hearts of this campus are dedicat- ed to upholding the most modern ideals, providing your idea of the modern corresponds to the year 1959. Where else but here (and other time tunnels) do students worry (and I mean really WORRY) about whose going to get flowers for the homecoming queen? Where else can you get in heated debates over which candidate will win the campus queen ribbon, or who'll get their picture in the yearbook most? (By the yvay, I'm running this year, so start counting. ) And who can forget the senior prom?
Yes gang, the last four years here have been, for the most part, verj uninspiring and banal, to say the very least In other w ords, NSC '. Has fulfilled it's obligation to it's students to a tee It has prepared them perfectly for their future lives in the outside world. One can not help to recall the classic conversation which ensued in Ancient Greece between a great dramatist and one of t he furies at an Athens tailor shop.
