Mac Display Dual Monitor. External Monitor Fix For Mac

External

Earlier I was using one external monitor (Dell S2440l 24 Inch Led Backlit Monitor) with my MacBook Pro. In terms of productivity I was doing great because I didn’t have to switch between various applications and windows while multi-tasking. But then I realized it would be even more awesome if I get another 24inch monitor and setup dual monitors with MacBook Pro. So I did some research and bought Dell S2415H 24 Inch LED monitor, which is replacement for Dell S2440L. I have my MacBook Pro in center of these two DELL full HD monitors. Now I place text editor in MacBook Pro and browsers in one monitor and terminal in other monitor.

Dual monitor setup mac

I’m trying to set up two monitors to my macbook pro, 17″ early 2011 running OS X El Cap. One monitor is HDMI to a laptop doc. The other one is DVI to firewire to laptop doc. The hdmi works, but when i unplug the hdmi, I then get back the DVI to firewire. When I plug in the hdmi, the dvi goes away. When i go to system prferences/video display as in your directions, i only see two (which I assume includes the laptop monitor itself) monitors. How do i get the second monitor to recognize?
