I bought this printer a little over a year ago. I was happy to have the wireless and I did not have much trouble setting it up.
Now for the bad. I bought this paper weight so I could do basic home printing. It had trouble doing that after a couple months.
It started freezing up, not printing and printing crooked. Now it just spits paper through the feeder and prints nothing. I have spent hours and hours trying to research to get this fixed. I have spent money on expensive ink and paper trying to get it to run and doing print and alignment tests. I have reloaded drivers and unplugged and plugged in dozens of times to get this thing to run.This printer has been extremely frustrating and one huge waste of time and money.
When it does print cuts off the top inch no matter what kind of settings I make it or what program I am using. And the HP customer service is non-existent if your product is out of warranty.
There is no email or phone to call to complain unless you want to pay money. Their help forum is a joke and has hundreds of unanswered questions. I am going shopping for a new printer and I refuse to buy any HP product. We've had two of these printers for a couple of years (in two locations) and they have both worked fine for us, despite the plethora of negative reviews. With that stated, I would seek out a printer with a better interface and better reviews. We are not exactly overjoyed with it. Printing works well wirelessly but is a bit of trouble to set up. I have not ever been able to register the printer on a network through the built in interface. Instead, bloatware must be installed (along with loads of cute advertisements.
Thanks HP) on a PC using the same network. Then the bloatware is used to set up the printer. Once set up, the printing works great wirelessly. Unfortunately, scanning and copying is very problematic. Again, the bloatware must be used which means you cannot just hop on a PC, connect, and scan. Or better yet, as with some other AIO's, simply press a button to scan to a network location or email.

Scanning does work, but its not straight forward or intuitive. Copying is even worse. You can copy straight from the printer's interface, but the few times I have done this, it takes many minutes to print the copy. So it is faster to actually scan to a file and then print from your computer, which of course, makes the 'copy' feature essentially pointless.
Hope that helps others. HP is aware of a known issue with this printer that if wireless setup encounters problems, it could lockup completely, leaving you with a bricked printer. The LCD window will display the HP logo with an infinite progress bar and nothing will work with no way to reset. I was a victim of this, so I called HP and they didn't even want to exchange the printer saying that they are aware of an issue. Instead, they offered a $140 voucher to their site. So I used it on anything but a printer. I came out with some nice stuff.

I have to say in my particular situation, I came out on top because this printer was FAR with a Macbook. So I will get the rebate, got a $140 voucher, and fixed the printer.
However, if I were you reading this now, I would STAY AWAY from the C47XX line of printers if not all HP printers. I must say it was decent in the beginning, it printed when I asked, it scanned when I asked, heck, I'm sure it would have gladly served me well as right hand man if it were human, but something happened and I don't know what.
Now I stand here HOPING that my assignment will print, but now it is a war of will and determination and so far it looks it appears as though I am losing hopelessly after half an hour of doing so. The printer is inexpensive, but they know they'll make it up in ink purchases. The software also is intrusive. It's like HP thinks the only reason you have a computer is to use their printers. They try to take over all your preferences and put annoying reminders in software to encourage you to buy ink. Finally, I'm bothered by the fact that they require you to print something every time you do some part of the set up.
This chews up more ink and they know that. By the time I got it setup, I probably used up a good part of the cartridge. I have had this printer for a year and it works fine for me It prints, scans, and copies, just like HP said it would. So why the low rating? I had Best Buy Geek Squad set it up for me when I purchased this printer with a new computer. It took him over an hour to hook up the printer and had to call for help in doing so. So I figure if it took him that lon, there is no chance a non tech person could do it.
The printer ink is expensive. I also heard HP is installing microchips on their ink cartiages so you can't refill them. I think I will go with a Kodak printer next time. When I scan, it took a while to figure out how to change the format from JPEG to PDF. HP doesn't like to make things easy. When I scan to PDF, it will only let you scan one page at a time.
So if you have a multi page document, it gives you a separate document for each page. I did find a nice free program on the Cnet web site that merges your document together. It is by Adolix. It works great. But beware, there is a different program that they say is free but puts a big watermark on each page. You can only get the watermark off if you buy the program.
There is also a free service at. I have tried that and it also works great. So in summary, I would certainly not buy this printer again. THE ABOVE AVERAGE/AVERAGE USER SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT. While the print quality is good and the design attractive, several serious cons exist: 1. RELIABILITY: This prints and scans wirelessly great when it does.but that's ALMOST NEVER.
My printer stays on strike. WIRELESS SET-UP: Constantly needs to be redone(which take hours), although this could be avoided by 'changing your printers IP address'. Do you know how to do that? Didn't think so. TONER: Limited Life and Expensive. Expect to spend $35-40 (high yield) each go. SCANNER: Scans documents as individual jpegs.
As such, will need third-party software to convert and merge documents. Time consuming. GUIDED SOLUTIONS (accompanying troubleshooting software): USELESS. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The agents can be rude. All appeared to be frustrated and as lost as I. I found the user submitted solutions on the HP site to be effective and the most useful.

Unfortunately, HP removed these pages when it redid its site. I should mention, I initially returned the product to Best-Buy after a month or so of owning it; it stopped working. This has been a difficult print year. I knew I should have read the Amazon reviews before I bought, but I was in the store and so I got this biggest piece of Bub-kiss on earth. Another reviewer called this a brick out of the box and I agree. I called support and they could not help me. I even have gotten a printer cable to hook the printer right to the computer and it still won't print.
It will print part pages and then die and then print a part page and then die, over and over. I wanted to return this, I got it at Walmart, I waited too long and could not find my receipt. STAY AWAY from this printer.uggggg.
This printer is horrible. It worked okay for about two months, when I just had it connected directly to my desktop, but when I tried to connect it wirelessly I spent two futile days, by myself and on the phone with HP, trying to get it working again, with any computer, including the desktop it has been working okay on when directly wired to the network. The printer has a critical problem with the control face on the printer (see HP website for info and updates to their self-described 'critical' problem).
After maybe four hours on the phone with two technicians it appears the control face is critically flawed and one HP technician suggested a printer hardware problem now exists on my printer(stranglely caused by my attempt to use the wireless software that came with the printer). The update fix on their website also won't work now, and, worse, when the disabled printer/scanner is connected to the network my desktop computer is freezing up and not allowing me to even see my hard drive (problems I have never had with my desktop computer). There are other minor design flaws as well, like a USB cable that is way too short (my hub is hanging in the air so I can connect the printer to my desktop). I was just about to literally throw it in the garbage (I'd just finished writing the paragraph above) when I (without technicians) miraculously got it to work again wired to my desktop (and the control face is back up after about 40 hours down, during which I could only turn off the printer by unplugging it).
I'm not going to try connecting it wirelessly again (and will pray it continues to work wired to my desktop). It finally took to the uninstall/reinstall process after about three attempts, and reinstalled the original software.
I won't ever buy an HP printer again, and will think twice about buying any HP product. Garbage in, garbage out.

HP Photosmart C4700 printer, USB (had it wireless, but that wasn't working either) and when I try to print, sometimes it works, and sometimes it works hours later (in the morning, voila! There it is, printed) and sometimes the only way to get the job to print is, turn the machine off and turn it back on again. Just like a Windows machine, which is not what i wanted when i splurged for an iMac.
Any ideas why the print job just sits and won't print, sometimes for hours and sometimes not at all? And what is happening when i re-start the machine that i could set the machine to do so i wouldn't have to re-start it? Last evening, for example, i sent a job to the printer, and it sat. This morning, having done nothing other than put the machine to Sleep for the night, the printer status is 'unknown' so far as the HP Utility is concerned. Step 1: uninstall the HP software.
If you insert the CD that you got with the printer there is an uninstaller on it. Step 2: Don't install anything from HP. Step 3: Use the drivers that Apple provides. Go to system preferencesprint & fax. Delete the printer queue you are using by highlighting it and clicking '-' in the lower left hand corner of the window that lists the printer queues. Step 4: click the '+' sign that is right next to the '-' sign. The computer will search your network and find your printer.
Choose it by clicking and highlighting it. Then click 'Options & Supplies.' Step 5: Click the 'Driver' tab in the middle of the top row. Step 6: Choose HP Photosmart 2700 Series from the drop-down menu. Click OK, close the Print & Fax preference pane and you are done.
Print with abandon! I'm having the exact same problem originally reported by Snortwood on both an Imac and mac air 13' I've tried the solution proposed by Gutenburg, however the HP Photosmart 2700 is not listed in the drop down list, only HP Photosmart 2700 - fax. If I try that driver it installs it as a fax so I'm not able to print at all. Any help greatly appreciated, I've had this problem for months and sadly the only work around I've found so far is to use my otherwise retired and awful windows laptop (it prints fine!).
