It certainly isn’t wise for companies to screw the very people who financially supported them so that they could survive long enough to need a plan that accomodates growth like this.
It’s much easier to keep a happy customer (who tells others about their app) than to find new ones. They have lost this customer and many others, I suspect. Maybe this doesn’t seem to apply to you because you’re getting it “free” - except that nothing is actually free and you’ll have to pay to fully use this app. I will never give another cent to this company and I’ll think twice before supporting others if Apple offers no protection against this bait and switch behavior.
