Logged onto AOL Webmail page and had no problems sending mail from there! As an FYI, sending mail via webmail access for an account using a browser does not use an SMTP server to send the message, which is required with sending mail with an email client. Someone in the iPhone discussions with an AOL account reported the same problem as of yesterday when sending with their iPhone. I asked her if she was also accessing the account with an email client on her computer and if so was she having any problems sending with the email client on her computer and I haven't heard back yet. Possibly AOL is having a problem with their SMTP server.
I'm having the same problem, so I'm glad it's not just me. I kept modifying the smpt.aol.com settings, thinking that something got changed, but nothing worked, although a few test messages got sent. I can send messages without a problem using the AOL webmail service. It's only a problem sending messages via mail.app. Hopefully it is an AOL problem which will resolve itself very soon.
My E-mail address is of Netscape vintage (netscape.net, later taken over by AOL), and as it's my primary E-mail, I'd like mail.app to work well with it. Ok I hope this works for you guys.
I pretty much have been doing the same thing everyone else has when it comes to googling and changing every setting I could. This is what finally worked for me. Using Outgoing server smpt.aol.com the default port settings, encryption and password. The change that finally made the difference was changing email address from @aol.com to @aim.com and poof it worked for me, so give a shot and let me know. I've got the problem on my iphone too right now but I haven't finished it yet. Apple Footer.

In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the key to success is your connection with your customers, Benioff said. “This is an important time for the world, where we are taking personal action to change the world. We are not relying on your government leaders, or NGO leaders, or business leaders. We are coming together to work as one,' he told attendees. “Everything is starting to get connected. And behind all of these things is the customer. We’ve been building our customer success platform for almost 20 years so that companies can be connected to their people, products, and their customers.
